  • There are a litany of 2020 NFL Draft Prospects that have really helped themselves over the last several months. Checking those proverbial boxes at the 2020 Senior Bowl and 2020 NFL Combine. Impressing scouts, coaches and front office personnel with their physical ability, football acumen and ability to handle the media. The 2020 Pre-Draft Process has been good to many a future NFLer this draft season but there have been a dozen or so individuals that have absolutely "aced" both the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine and are being touted as Senior Bowl and NFL Combine Winners. Two such individuals are Chase Claypool, physically imposing Wide Receiver (WR) out of Notre Dame and Troy Pride Jr., Claypool's former teams who projects as a starting caliber NFL cornerback but has a few things he needs to clean up. Both players have seen their draft stock rise throughout the 2020 NFL Pre-draft Process.. Chase Claypool took advantage of additional reps during the Senior Bowl practices and 1-on-1 drills due to the absence of Brandon Aiyuk and Tyler Johnson. An impressive Senior campaign still left Claypool as an afterthought considering the depth of the 2020 NFL Draft WR Class but the Senior Bowl participant not only turnerd defensive backs around in Mobile but turned the heads of NFL scouts displaying a feel for the WR position many thought he did not have. Claypool followed up a strong week in Moblile with a fantastic Combine performance among a wide receiver class perhaps more talented and deeper than the famed 2014 Wide Receiver draft class. Claypool's physicality and straightline speed at nearly 240 lbs has some questioning whether he could move to tight end, which CPGM Juice believes only bolsters his draft stock considering the relative lack of depth at the tight end position among 2020 NFL Draft hopefuls compared to the wide receiver position. Troy Pride Jr. helped himself as well at Mobile as he was probably the most consistent cornerback thoughout the week of practices. He demonstrated a short memory when he lost a rep which wasn't always the case when watching his Notre Dame tape. Pride's 4.4 speed doesn't always show up when defending vertical routes while his back is to the quarterback, but he impressed in the short to intermmediate areas of the field with good press technique more often than not. His ball skills may not have resulted in big INT/PBU numbers at Notre Dame but he routinely made plays on the ball when in phase in Mobile including a few interceptions. Pride went on to check off the vast majority of the boxes at the NFL Combine as his phsyical traits suggests starter potential. In the appropriate scheme, with quality coaching we should see Pride's confidence continue to grow as he develops into the cornerback he clearly has the potential to become.
