Adobe uses Intel's quick sync to encode video faster there is nothing to do with GPU. I believe Linus use Adobe premiere pro for video editing

"Those aren't that reliable drives..."- 10 years old- running in this server 24/7 for years- probably up to 100 Gig daily writing workloadI'd call that pretty reliable...

Linus is dropping videos left and right like they're graphics cards.

  • inund8 12 days ago

@Skater6453 Oh actually, when AMD was launching polaris, they invited Linus on and Raja Koduri was about to give him the bag with with new card in it, but instead ended up dropping it. About a year later, Raja Koduri left AMD to join intel. I guess it just took a while for the dent to show up eh?

10:30 - USE A FUNNEL!!!!!Stay tuned for the "Quad EPYC/Threadripper based encoding server with dual 2080 ti's, dual 2000watt PSUs, 256GB of RAM and fairy lights all over the frigging place.... and to cool it we are going to submerge it in liquid nitrogen... then drop it on the floor!"

Linus and company wouldn't be that cheap: If they happen to have either a Dual Titan RTX (via NVLink), Tesla T4, or Dual Quadro RTX 8000 (via NVLink) that they can use for the project, then I know for a fact that they'll likely resort to that instead; a Dual Socket Xeon Platinum 9282 or Eight Socket Xeon Platinum 8280L with 036 TB of DDR IV ECC RAM would be straight up overkill but probably get the job done just as well, though the latter concept would probably be more suitable for "032 Gamers/Wor...

I almost died watching this moment

  • Don't use the same OS Installation for comparison. Adobe doesn't like changing Boards/CPUs. I got really bad results when I tried to just swap hardware without a fresh OS install. Even the iGPU wasn't used at all after swapping hardware. After a fresh install this works fine after all.

  • @kilrahvp you can't just uninstall Adobe and are good to go. As far as I know you really need to install Windows again to make it work.I don't know why but it is like it is.

  • kilrahvp 6 days ago

@zwz • zdenek Adobe totally does stupid stuff like detecting config on install and never updating it again.
