  • With one selection in each round the Carolina Panthers netted a strong 2019 NFL Draft Class headlined by edge rusher extraordinaire Brian Burns out of FSU. The Panthers are transitioning to a 3-4 base defense and are in needed of athletic edge rushers who ideally can function in coverage as well. Enter Burns, the 6th overall prospect among the Couch Potato GM Top 50 who not only has the requisite explosiveness and bend to get to the pass rusher but also possesses the athletic ability and smoothness to drop in coverage as evidenced by a tremendous 2019 NFL Combine. In the second round, Carolina addressed another need by selecting the talented albeit inconsistent OT Greg Little from Ole Miss. The CPGM trio have differing opinions on Little's prospects but agree that his success (which the Panthers need) at the NFL level will come down to coaching. The Panthers wrapped up the 3rd round of the 2019 NFL Draft with QB Will Grier from West Virginia. While Grier put up video game numbers in college he will need to be reigned in a bit to become a consistent starter. However, given that incumbent and former MVP Cam Newton is healthy, Grier who had been rumored to be a late 1st round candidate can learn the ropes as Cam Newton's backup. In the fourth round the Carolina Panthers drafted the versatile linebacker, Christian Miller from Alabama to continue rounding out their new 34 defensive look. In the 5th round, the Panthers drafted CPGM favorite, Jordan Scarlett an under-utilized running back out of Florida. Scarlett may not wow in terms of the un-trained eye and has work to do as a receiving threat but he possesses all the qualities Couch Potato General Manager looks for in a pure ball-carrier. In the 6th and 7th rounds the Panthers drafted Dennis Daley and Terry Godwin respectively. Daley adds depth along the offensive line and has a ton of upside but will requires a couple years of seasoning before being relied upon. As for Godwin, while his career at Georgia wasn't as ballyhooed as one might have imagined considering the fanfare he entered the program with; he put on a show during the 2019 East West Shrine Game taking home MVP honors on the strength of a pair of TD receptions. Godwin looked tremendous out of the slot but enters a crowded wide receiver room in Carolina. Couch Potato GM. Carolina Panthers Draft Recap 2019. Panthers 2019 draft picks. Panthers 2019 Draft.
