Canelo Alvarez vs GGG Gennady Golovkin 2 | Highlights Recap

  • Canelo Alvarez vs GGG Gennady Golvkin 2 Highlight recap. Canelo was able to score a majority decision win against GGG Gennady Golovkin at T-mobile arena in Las Vegas. A modern classic of a middleweight title bout revealed the same truism boxing fans knew all too well coming in: Death, taxes and Canelo Alvarez getting the benefit of the doubt. One year after a controversial split draw spoiled their first meeting in a fight most observers felt Gennady Golovkin had won, Alvarez claimed a majority decision in a thrilling fight at T-Mobile Arena to unify GGG's WBA and WBC titles with his own lineal championship.

Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs), who failed a pair of drug tests in February that forced the postponement of their originally scheduled May rematch, showed an incredible chin in pressing the action and trading with the bigger puncher Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) throughout.

The controversial scoring from the first bout ultimately repeated itself but not in such an egregious manner thanks to how close the rounds were contested in a rematch that was fought with tremendous skill at a hellacious pace. Judge Glenn Feldman scored it 114-114, while Steve Weisfeld and Dave Moretti had it 115-113 for Alvarez.

CBS Sports scored it 116-112 for Golovkin, who angrily left the ring after the decision and declined a post-fight interview.

The 36-year-old Golovkin outlanded Alvarez, eight years his junior, 234-202, according to CompuBox. Alvarez had the advantage in body shots landed by a 46-8 margin and in power punches, 143-116.

"If the people want a third fight, we will do it again. But for now, I want to enjoy the moment with my family and my people," Alvarez said. "But if they want us to do it again, no doubt."

It seems that apparently the power of body shot are equally weighted than light jabs and that being walked down all night long doesn't count as part of winning the fight?? and somehow ggg bleeding goes unnoticed?? GGG face looked liked like a slammed burger patty in light of canelo's minor cut. Ha! Give me a break! This is a no brainer win for canelo. Even ggg coach admitted his loss.

Cantaloupe was hurt in the 10th and 11th. His legs stiffened up...GGG was never got hurt...and GGG was the champ and cantaloupe did not define the fight...proving him the winner...

I see a lot of people who really dont understand the sport of boxing. Yes, the boxer coming forward gets breaks the tie in an even fight but only if the moving away is done to stop the action (like a clinch or a hug) doesnt if the fighter is merely taking advantage of his longer reach the way Tripel G was in this fight. He had Canelo eating jabs all night long and whether you like it or not those jabs score poitns for Triple G. In terms of power punches, they were maybe even with maybe Triple G coming out ahead..he hurt Canelo in the 10th and 12 round. So, punch stats are even but you have to give a slight edge to Triple G for actually hurting his opponent! Further, Triple G dominated with his jab. He's the champion and theres no way in hell Canelo deserved to win that fight!
