  • Lebanon is about to take a historic step for the Arab World with a proposed bill to legalize the cultivation of cannabis for medical use. But in the fertile Bekaa valley in Eastern Lebanon, where communities have been growing cannabis for generations, this news has not gone down well. VICE’s Rony Karkar finds out why Lebanon is so keen to legalize cannabis, and travels to the village of Yammouneh, where one of the main cannabis farming communities live, to find out why they think they’ll lose out if their livelihood becomes legal.Welcome to Weed Week 2019. The Middle East has been growing cannabis for generations, but some of Lebanon's most established farmers are wary of the latest talks of legalization. We went to the Bekka Valley to find out why what could happen if hashish goes legal. WATCH NEXT: Making Mahjoun with Ice-Water Hash -- https://www.201tube.com/video/bObwagqq0A8/video.html

Meanwhile in Germany:People and most Political Parties: Legalize!Government's drug commissioner Marlene Mortler (her whole family is working in the beer industry): "Cannabis is forbidden, because it's an illegal drug"Also you pay around 24€ for a gram of medicinal cannabis (for comparison: It's 7€ in the Netherlands). Something's wrong here :D

You think that's weird ? Then come to India. It's the weirdest legal loophole ever, since weed is so throughouly established in our religious mythology, in places of pilgrimage , in certain states in the North the government itself dispenses cannabis through government approved bhang shops. Charas, weed , hash , bhang, you name it. But in cities it is completely illegal and if you get caught you're fucked, you'll have to bribe your way out and pay upto 300$ to get out.If you come to the south of In...

What a world we are living in... as soon as something profitable comes along for poor people, the rich and politicians grab it from their hands and give them only crumbs.

They're selling a product, why should they not pay taxes like the rest of the population?

Very true. Regulations imposed by governments to "protect the public" are often thinly-veiled barriers of entry, in order to create oligopolies granted to big companies. Did you know that in France any seed of any kind needs to be registered in a catalogue in order to be sold? And the catalogue is dominated by like 5 major global players. In other words as a farmer in France you are almost forced to buy from one of these major players.
