  • Citizenship Amendment Act protest: Vice-chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia University has said the university will be filing an FIR against the Delhi Police for entering the university campus without permission and beating up students and staff. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court agreed to hear petitions filed on behalf of students of Jamia Millia Islamia University over police action against them on Sunday during which many students were injured as police barged into the Jamia campus and resorted to lathicharge and firing teargas shells. The Supreme Court however made it clear that one does not get a right to riot just because one is a student. Meanwhile, protests are being held at various universities across the country in cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai against police action and the Citizenship Amendment Act. On Sunday, clashes and violence during police action against students was also reported in the Aligarh Muslim University. Sporadic incidences of violence were also seen in Patna and the internet has been shut down in towns like Saharanpur.
