Members of George Floyd's family joined a demonstration and march in Houston, TX as protests across U.S. cities entered their second week, demanding justice over the death of Floyd — a Black man who died of suffocation after a video showed a white Minneapolis police officer with a knee on Floyd's neck for several minutes.
The latest wave of protests came after U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to send out the military and “dominate the streets,” and police under federal command forced back peaceful demonstrators in Washington D.C. with tear gas so the President could walk to a nearby church and pose with a Bible.
The largely peaceful demonstrations were punctuated by violence and unrest, with the death toll rising to two people killed in a Chicago suburb. The police chief in Louisville was fired after a beloved restaurant owner was killed by security forces during unrest early Monday.
