Wow! Old school jams brought me here. Speaking of which. Mtume is correct on all points. Please lets move on from the current rap that is being played today. Meanwhile, I'll keep playing old songs and every-now-and-then and good song will come along.

I consider Mr. Mtume a genuine cultural treasure and a musical virtuoso. So many of the melodies that he's responsible for (Give it on Up, Back Together Again, Put Your Body in It, etc.) are true examples of intellectual complexity and, since my teen years in the 70s, a part of my life. It deeply saddens me that within the next 20 years, or so, the world is going to lose many of these iconic figures.

Mtume was the first thing that came to mind when I saw Sharaya at The Four’s finale. I bought their cassette tape back in early 80’s, along with SOS Band’s Sands of Time Album. Great to have grown up in the 80’s knowing what music is being sampled.

This is the only interview that I liked from this ratchet gossip peddling talk show. Mr. Mtume dropped knowledge and the annoying cohosts didn’t interrupt him.
