When I read a manga, I don’t really think of it as an Asian comic. I just think of it as a story that is shaped by Japanese influences. Writers should tell the stories they want to tell without having their story being labeled as a uniquely black story or a white story etc. Society should not define who you are.

@Precarious333 Music I think you brought up a really good point about the competition but i think these "Black" "asian" or "Muslim" characters are necessary. I think my problem with the phrase "Identity Politics" is that in all honesty people DO want to see themselves represented in the media. The comic about the Muslim Ms. Marvel sold extremely well. Spiderman into the SpiderVerse sold well also...why because people not only want to see compelling stories but th...

Jeez, the people in the comments could use an extra brain cell or two. Go watch some David Duke instead if black culture triggers you so much.

I love it! Black representation in the media is almost always negative, I'm happy to see young black artist take charge and depict accurate images of the black experience.

@lilahdog 568 uggggh everything racist to yall damn

  • lilahdog 568 3 months ago

@Kylo Ren you contradicted yourself. You said white people are the most racist race on earth and the only racists but that statement in itself is racist. Btw kylo ren is white and was created as a character by a white man. Star wars is of white origin too. MAtter of fact most of the stuff you use is white shit. When are you giving it up to remove those evil white devil influences from your life?

  • i think the point of this video was to point out that most of the comic characters that _everyone_ knows, comic fan or not, aren't black. even though there are a lot of black chatacters, they aren't necessarily well known by everyone. for example, when black panther came out, a *lot* of people went to see it just because the cast and the main character were mainly black without even knowing who black panther was before appearing in movies. yes this wasn't the greatest video vice has made on this kind o...

"Don't read the comments."This is a good video. Would be interested of more literature written from a parallel reality to the, "Norm." (but I think you know that by now)

@illkyum you know that's not what he meant. Stop reaching.

I mean the videos alright. I think the comic book community is really inclusive so a lot of people wish that the guy coming into it had done a bit more research into the cultural zeitgeist that is black comic book characters and black comic book artists and writers. Which are all absolutely killing it right now and that's awesome.

My favorite and pretty much only comic book I ever collected was spawn.
