- There are 403 High Court and 6 Supreme Court Judges posts vacant as of today.Supreme Court Senior Advocate , Sanjay Hegde, talks to Newsclick about the reasons for huge vacancies in the High Courts and the mechanisms needed so that the judicial work does not suffer. He also gives his views on the pendency of court cases and how to deal with such pile up efficiently.
Adv. Sanjay is of the opinion that eligible candidates from the marginalised communities should be represented in the Higher Judiciary and he stresses the need for retired SC and HC Judges to groom potential lawyers who can be chosen as Judges.
