Tiki Cocktail: Piña Colada

  • Happy national Piña Colada day! We decided to release an episode on this wonderful Tiki drink because we are celebrating Piña Colada's this week!

    This cocktail was created by Ramon "Monchito" Perez at the Caribe Hilton on August 15th 1954. As the drink's popularity grew, other San Juan bartenders claimed that they in fact created the drink and hijinx ensued.

    Here's the specs:

    2oz or 60ml Rican Rum
    1oz or 30ml Coco Lopez
    1oz or 30ml Heavy Cream
    6oz or 300ml Pineapple Juice
    .5 Cups or 125ml Crushed Ice
    Add to blender and blend 15-30 seconds
    Pourl unstrained into a collins glass
    Garnish with a pineapple wedge and Luxardo Cherry
