BEFORE Mac Miller landed himself on the XXL Freshman List for 2011 alongside Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill.
BEFORE he would burst onto the rap scene at the age of 18 and land a recording contract with Rostrum Records.
BEFORE Mac Miller was sued by Lord Finesse for $10 Million dollars, a man he had looked up to for quite some time.
BEFORE he would battle with addiction to alcohol, drugs and an endless thirst for ‘sizzurp’.

A self taght musician Mac Miller can play the piano, drums, guitar and bass, he initially intended to become a singer songwriter but no one was feeling his voice. Then during a weed smoking session he spit a rap and everyone was surprised at how good it was, including himself. From there he was hooked on rapping and would rob and steal to afford himself studio time, he went to school just to hand out CD’s and promote his rap career initially under the name Easy Mac.

Malcolm James McCormick was born on January 19, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Point Breeze by his mother Karen Meyers, a photographer, and his father Mark McCormick, an architect. His father a Christian and his mother is Jewish; Miller was raised Jewish and had a Bar Mitzvah.

He became obsessed with music early on in life, teaching himself how to play various instruments starting at the age of 6. He dreamt of becoming a singer songwriter but wasn’t receiving a ton of support from family and friends.

Growing up he was definitely a rule breaker and developed a taste for smoking cigarettes early on having his first in the third grade and smoking weed for the first time in the fifth grade.

He attended Winchester Thurston School and then Taylor Allderdice High School and was a bit of a trouble maker around town.

He would get arrected for throwing and crashing wild house parties and sneaking across the boarder to Canada.

Malcolm first discovered his interest and talent in rap during a weed-smoking session with his pals at the age of 14. There was a beat was playing in the background and he spit a freestyle, it was better than anyone expected and immediately Mac became hooked.

My name is Michael McCrudden, documenting the life of Mac Miller prior to fame, here for you on Before They Were Famous.
